Flamma was a famous gladiator of the Roman Empire, believed to have originally come from Syria. Ancient records describe him as a secutor, a heavily equipped type of gladiator traditionally matched against the lightly armed retiarius.

According to his surviving funerary inscription, Flamma fought 34 recorded contests, achieving 21 victories, 9 draws and suffering only 4 defeats.

Most remarkably, he is traditionally recorded as having been offered his freedom four times — and refusing it each time, choosing instead to continue his life as a gladiator. He died at around 30 years old.

His extraordinary career has made Flamma one of the best-known individual gladiators whose name survives from ancient Rome.

A powerful display piece for collectors of Roman history, gladiators, ancient warriors, Roman Empire memorabilia and historical figurines.
