Baldwin IV became King of Jerusalem in 1174 while still a teenager. Despite suffering from leprosy, he personally participated in the defence of his kingdom and is particularly remembered for his victory over Saladin at the Battle of Montgisard in 1177.
His short and extraordinary reign has made him one of the most recognisable figures of the Crusader era and a fascinating addition to collections dedicated to medieval history, Jerusalem, the Crusades and historical kings and warriors.
