Leif Erikson, son of Erik the Red, was a Norse explorer who lived around the turn of the 11th century. According to the Icelandic sagas, Leif sailed west from Greenland and reached a land the Norse called Vinland, generally associated with North America.

Norse presence in North America centuries before the voyages of Christopher Columbus is supported by the archaeological remains at L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland.

This makes Leif Erikson an essential addition to collections focused on Vikings, Norse exploration, medieval history and legendary explorers.
