Genghis Khan (c. 1162–1227) was the founder and first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire. Born as Temüjin, he united numerous tribes of the Mongolian steppe before launching a series of campaigns that transformed the political landscape of Eurasia.
After his death, his descendants continued the Mongol expansion, creating what became the largest contiguous land empire in history.
