Arminius was a Cheruscan leader who had served with the Roman military before leading an alliance of Germanic tribes against Rome. He is best remembered for the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in AD 9, where forces under his leadership destroyed three Roman legions commanded by Publius Quinctilius Varus.
