In 80 CE, during the grand opening games of the Colosseum, Priscus fought against fellow gladiator Verus in an extraordinary duel described by the Roman poet Martial.

The battle lasted so long, with both men displaying incredible skill, courage, and endurance, that Emperor Titus broke tradition and declared both gladiators victorious — awarding each man the rudis, the wooden sword symbolizing freedom. This remains one of the few known occasions where two gladiators were simultaneously granted honor and liberty after combat.
